The Chelsea Clock Company's largest Desk Set model features 8.5-inch-diameter dials. Measuring 12 inches in height, 21.5 inches in width, and 4.5 inches in depth, this distinctive clock-and-barometer combination is considered a rare find, with only 10 examples known to collectors at this scale. This particular example includes a Special Dial with raised numerals and serpentine hands. According to the Chelsea catalog, the original price for this clock was $275.
This clock set has undergone meticulous and comprehensive restoration to meet the highest standards and is in nearly perfect condition. The rose-colored brass case has been expertly polished and lacquered to preserve its color. The hinged bezels are fitted with beveled glass.
The eight-day ship's bell striking movement and the barometer mechanism have been serviced and are in excellent working order.
This example was originally ordered by and retailed through the Chicago retailer Spaulding & Co.
The serial number 111227 is stamped on the movement, dating the set to 1917.

The Chelsea Clock Company Board of Directors met for the first time on July 28, 1897. The Board consisted of Whipple N. Potter, Jr., President, Charles H. Pearson, Treasurer, Reginald Foster, Clerk and Secretary. Allen L. Shepherd served on the Board with the elected officers. This first group of individuals was not together long. The Chelsea firm persevered and has enjoyed a long run of success as a result of making clocks of superior manufacture. This company made many clocks. Some of which were in the style of the Willard timepiece or banjo clock, the E. Howard Model No., 70 and more famously, marine clocks. This company remains in business today.
