This is a very nice country case tall clock made in the Concord, New Hampshire region. We have owned numerous cases that have shared nearly identical construction and design elements. Many of these were signed by Clockmakers such as Timothy Chandler and Able Hutchins.

This case exhibits nice country proportions. The primary wood is apple. Apple is a wood that is similar to cherry in that they both feature closed graining as compared to birch. The two fruit woods differ visually in that apple tends to have a much busier grain pattern. The selections used in this example are wonderfully figured and have taken a warm color in the finish. This case stands up on cut out bracket feet. These retain very good height and form a drop apron in the center below the base panel. The rectangular waist door is fitted with an applied molding. The quarter columns are reeded and fitted into the corners of the waist. The bonnet features a traditional New England style fretwork. Three reeded finial plinths or chimneys are surmounted by three brass ball and spike finials. The bonnet columns are turned and also reeded. They flank the bonnet door. This door is arched in form and fitted with glass. The dial is colorfully paint decorated. It depicts florals in the arch and in the four spandrel areas. The florals are very well executed and quite pretty. This dial displays the time in seconds, minutes, hours and the calendar day in the traditional format. The brass movement is good quality. It is powered by weights and designed to run eight-days on a full wind. This clock will also strike each hour on a bell which is mounted above the movement. This clocks stands 7 feet 8.5 inches tall to the top of the center finial.
