This model is called the “Theben.” It was was made by the Ansonia Clock Company and cataloged as early as 1883. This is a nice clean example.
This case is constructed in mahogany which retains a mellowed patina. The large glass door is decorated with an elaborate design. This transfer features long lacy curtains. We have seen a number of variations in the tablet design in other examples. Here, the curtains have been pulled open in order to view the motion of the fancy pendulum bob. The dial is paper an applied to a tin pan. This dial measures 5.5 inches in diameter across the time ring. It is original to this clock and is framed by a brass bezel. The spring driven movement is brass. It is a thirty hour time and strike design, striking the hour on a brass bell. The bell is mounted inside the case. The movement is die stamped on the front plate by the Maker. This example clock was made circa 1885 and measures 18.5 inches tall.
