This chelsea made ships clock is called the “Admiral.” It features a brass movement that is die stamped with Maker’s name and Serial Number “139395” in to the back plate of the movement. According to this serial number, this clock was made in the month of February, 1920. The back plate is also die stamped on the back with patent information and Maker’s name. This example is in very good condition. This case is bronze and is quite heavy. The case measures 9.75 inches tall and 10.25 inches wide. It is approximately 5 inches deep. The bezel is the hinged. It opens from the left allowing one to access the dial. The 5.5 inch diameter dial is a “Special” dial in that the surface is nickeled and the numerals are raised. The Retailer’s name, “Bigelow, Kennard & Co., Inc. Boston” are also located here. Below it, it reads, ”Chelsea Ship’s Bell.” The time is read by the serpentine hands. The movement is excellent quality. It is spring wound and designed to run 8 days on a full wind and strike the hour and half hour on a military time sequence. The escapement features a balance wheel. This means that this clock will continue to run even while being moved.
