F. W & R. King of Baltimore, Maryland. A wall Barometer.

This very unusual American made barometer is signed by the Makers Frederick W. and Richard King. They are listed as working at both 33 South Street and 226 Baltimore Street in Baltimore, Maryland from 1851 to 1875.

The case is constructed in mahogany. The presentation is very interesting in that it steps back to the wall from three distinctive levels. The shaping of the case reenforces the depth. The design is quite different from the standard stick format of the day. The skillfully engraved brass scales have been silvered. The engraving are filled with black so the contrast is excellent and easy to read. The upper portion is the barometer. This is fitted with a separate scale on each side in order to interpret the level changes. The middle section of the instrument is fitted with a long thermometer. This instrument measures approximately 43 inches in length.
