This is a very nice French made carriage clock that was retailed by the Bigelow, Kennard & Co. of Boston, Massachusetts circa 1900. This clock features a well made brass movement that is designed to run eight days on a full wind. This clock will strike the hour on a wire or coil gong. It has an alarm feature which is set from the back of the clock. It also has a repeat button located at the top of the case. Depress this and the clock will strike the last hour. This feature was incorporated into clocks like this so that one could set the clock on the night table. If you were to wake from sleep in the darkness hours, you could simply press this repeat button and the clock would strike the last hour. This is simpler than having to strike a match to light a candle in order to visually read the dial. This clock is in good condition. The movement has been recently serviced and is in running order. The original lever platform is intact. The porcelain dial is in excellent condition and bears the signature of the retailer. This clock measures 6.75 inches with the handle in the up right position.
